Journal, magazine, and newspaper articles can be accessed through the databases available on the Fontbonne University Library webpage.
Select Electronic Resources to reach the databases.
Once you have selected a database, the authentication screen may appear if you are off campus. Once you have entered your information, you will have access to the databases. As long as you do not close the browser window you will not need to reauthenticate to select another database.
Type your search term(s) in the appropriate box(es) and hit ENTER.
A list of results will be displayed if available.
When all that is available is a citation, do the following:
If you are searching a Fontbonne database and cannot find full-text, leave the window of the database you are searching open (or print out the citation) and open another session of Internet Explorer.
- On Fontbonne Library's webpage, select A-to-Z Journals.
- In A-to-Z Journals, type the title of the JOURNAL you need in the FIND box on the upper right corner of the screen
- If we have access to the journal, the listing for the journal will look similar to this:
|
Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy
|
| |
|
In print in Fontbonne Library Your Access: 1995 - current |
| |
|
Academic Search Premier 1996 to present (Embargo: 1 year) |
ISSN: 1081-3004 |
|
- If the journal is available in print in Fontbonne's Library, check to see if the date you need is included in the print run.
- Back issues of print periodicals are on the second floor, stored alphabetically.
- Find your artcle and make a copy of it.
- If the journal is indexed in another database that Fontbonne Library subscribes to, a link will be provided showing the dates available [Academic Search Premier in this example]. (NOTE: Watch out for an embargo period, meaning that those issues are not available in this database.)
- Click on the link provided and use the citation you wrote down or printed out to find the article: select the year needed, then the issue/month, then the article
- If the article is from a newspaper rather than a journal, check for it in the Lexis Nexis Academic database. Contact a reference librarian if you need assistance searching this database.
- If none of the above options have been successful, return to the window with the original search (that window should still be open) and request an ILL (Interlibrary Loan). This generally takes 5 - 10 days and will be sent to your Fontbonne E-mail account.
