Viewing Options
There are two options for viewing eContent:
- View this eBook opens the full-text eContent in the online reader without requiring you to login or create an account. You actively view the eContent (turning pages, searching within the full text, etc.) in 15-minute increments. If you are not actively viewing the eContent, it returns to the library for someone else to view.
- Checkout for 4 Hours checks out the full-text eContent title to your account and allows you to exclusively view the title for a defined period of time (requires logging into your account- see Creating a NetLibrary accountbelow ).
When you are finished using the book, remember to select the Close Item link on the left of the screen so others will have access to it.
Other Options
Add to My List adds the eContent title to your list for future reference. You will need to log into your NetLibrary account (see below).
All Copies in Use - If you see the message "All copies are in use," it means that other users are viewing all the full-text eContent copies of the title that your library owns. You can view the Table of Contents for the full-text eContent title and you can choose to be notified by email when a copy of the title becomes available.
Reading an eBook Online
When you first view an eBook in the online reader the main content is displayed on the right side. The reader also includes a navigation bar, located at the top.
Navigation Bar
The tools located in the reader navigation bar (upper right corner of the content area) can be used to control display options or navigate the eBook.
- Previous and Next buttons allow you to navigate to the previous or next page in the eBook.
- Page # entry box allows you to enter a page number then click "go" to move to that page within the eBook.
- Current page number displays in the top right of the content area in red.
Contents Navigation
The Contents tab includes the Table of Contents of the eBook you are currently viewing and allows you to navigate in the eBook using the chapter and section headings. If you want to go to the beginning of a chapter or section, click on that chapter or section heading.
A small box with a plus sign indicates that a heading is expandable. Click on the plus sign to view the sub-headings in the chapter. Once a chapter is expanded the box will contain a minus sign. Click on the minus sign to collapse the heading.
Searching an eBook
You may use the search box to search within the currently open eBook.
The content area will show the first occurrence of your search result within the eBook. In most cases, search terms found within the eBook will be highlighted with a yellow background.
Printing
You may print one page at a time using your browser's print functions. Although you can print parts of an eBook, printing an entire eBook violates copyright laws. Precautions are taken to protect copyright laws; if a suspicious usage pattern indicative of excessive printing or copying is detected the activity is logged and the user is sent a copyright warning.
Creating a NetLibrary Account
If you wish to access eContent from outside your library, create bookmarks, or save notes, you will need to create a NetLibrary user account from within your library or organization.
1. Use the Create a Free Account link in the upper right corner of the screen.
2. Enter your identifying information (user name, password, email address).
3. Click the Submit button.
