May 3, 2010 – The Fontbonne University baseball team won two out three games this weekend against Principia College qualifying them for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Post-Season Tournament.
Fontbonne beat Principia 13-11 and 10-1, and lost 6-5. The Griffins are now 18-16 overall and 13-8 in the SLIAC. Fontbonne is 11-2 in their last 13 games.
In Friday night’s game, Fontbonne got monster games from Sean Fischer and Josh Burlison. Fischer had a team-high five RBI’s in the game while Burlison had three hits, two runs scored and four RBI’s. Fontbonne sophomore Jordan Jereb picked is team-high fifth win on the mound.
After losing the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader 6-5, Fontbonne bounced back on the strength of a great pitching performance by junior David Willey. Willey went five innings allowing just three hits and no runs while striking out three and walking one. Willey also picked up his team-best fifth win in the game while lowering his ERA to 3.86.
Burlison led the way offensively again with three hits and four RBI’s. Fontbonne senior Josh Kraemer had two hits and two RBI’s to give him a team-high 44 for the season.
With one three-game series left on the season, Fontbonne currently sits in third place in the SLIAC. With a three-game sweep of second place Greenville College, Fontbonne could finish as high as second place in the SLIAC.
Fontbonne will be either the #3 or #2 seed in the SLIAC Tournament, scheduled to begin May 14th.
