Men's golf shoots an opening round 319

Sept. 7, 2010 - The Fontbonne University men's golf team opened their 2010 season in dramatic form firing a team 319 in the opening round of the Missouri Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at Porto Cima Golf Course in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.

The tournament hosts NCAA Division II and III, and NAIA college and universities from all over Missouri. Fontbonne finished 10th out of the 18 teams in the tournament. The Griffins were the highest placed NCAA Div. III school and bet several NCAA Div. II and NAIA programs.

Matt Tuggle fired an opening round 77 to pace the Griffins. Tuggle finished the first round tied for 18th place in the tournament. Brett Hulsey shot a 78 just one stroke behind Tuggle.

Charlie Martin shot a first round 81 while just a couple strokes back was junior Nolan Zoellner with a 83. Bryson Potts rounded out the Griffins top five with a 88.

The second and final round of the tournament will be held on Wednesday.
