The women's basketball team finished 18-10 last year with a 14-2 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) record. The Griffins won the SLIAC regular season championship and the SLIAC Tournament championship. Fontbonne lost in the first round of the NCAA Div. III National Tournament.
Fontbonne head coach Keith Quigley returns all five of his starters from last year's team including SLIAC Player of the Year Kaitlin Bramel. The Griffins also return Bramel's backcourt mate Calli Collier, a First-Team All-Conference selection.
Fontbonne opens the season November 13th when they travel to Rolla, Missouri for an exhibition game against Missouri S & T University.
The men's team will be led by head coach Lee McKinney who is entering his 23rd season on the bench for the Griffins. Coach McKinney' s team will look to improve on their 8-17 record a season ago.
Coach McKinney plans to mix an impressive recruiting class with a nice group of returning players to make a run at a SLIAC championship. One of those returning players is Jahmall Thomas who shot 65 percent from the floor last year while leading his team in rebounding. Senior Frank Scheetz returns a year after making 39 percent of his three-point field goal attempts.
The Griffins will open the season on Nov. 17th when they play Central Missouri State University in an exhibition game at 7:30 pm.
