For Fontbonne students, faculty and staff, this is a great opportunity to “walk the walk,” as we fan out across the St. Louis metropolitan area for our annual campus-wide community service effort called FONTBONNE DAY! 

Fontbonne Day - April 12, 2013

Here’s what the day looks like:

8:00 Registration (DSAC Gym)

8:15  Welcome and Introductions

8:30  Common Good Panel

9:40  Gather with team leaders

                Pick up box lunches

                Go to service sites

3:30  Return to DSAC Caf for Ted Drewes

Fontbonne Day is a work/service day for all full-time faculty and staff.

Students are encouraged to carpool with other students to the service site. Staff, faculty and administrators must have an Illinois or a Missouri Class E license to drive students. Students, get a few friends together to lend a hand!

Everyone must register for Fontbonne Day online. Registration will close on Wednesday, April 9th. Every participant will receive a free t-shirt. Sign up by April 1st to help ensure accurate ordering (sizes not guaranteed).

We will be working with the Office of Sustainability and they will assign duties as needed on the date of service.

Volunteers will work at an urban farming incubator farm in South St. Louis. The volunteers should bring work gloves, and dress to get a little dirty!

Comfortable clothing and walking shoes are also encouraged. Brightside is responsible for graffiti removal, trash pick-up, recycling stations, and neighborhood nature-scaping.

On this day you will partner with The Kelley Group, Show Me Victories, Rally STL, Gateway Greening to plant wild flowers on an empty lot in downtown STL.

In Board Room of FBU library for DCAWS - Dent County Animal Welfare Society

"Knit/Crochet in Board Room of Library for the Dent County Animal Welfare Society". Knit or crochet squares to be pieced together to make blankets for rescued animals.  If unable to knit or crochet, helpers can also attach the squares together.  Donated craft yarn will be provided for use until the supply runs out.

We will be stuffing team packets for the April 27 annual Kidney Walk.  Light office work, copies, etc.

Do activities with elderly and disabled adults in this day care setting. Read stories, do puzzles and games together, assist with lunch and snack; listen and chat with people.

Gateway 180 Transitional Housing

SHESA members will be leading the clean-up of Gateway 180 Homeless Shelter's transitional housing yards.  Volunteers will pick up trash and ready the yards for gardens, and maybe even plant some flowers, too!

Paint and sort thrift store items.  Site is a social services agency that provides services to people who are low income and/or searching for employment.

Assist with cleaning up and preparation of a dedication upcoming ceremony. This may include help with setting up temporary displays honoring our ex-POW veterans and those still missing in action.

Volunteers will be knitting or crocheting PURPLE newborn baby caps. Volunteers should bring their own knitting needles or crochet hooks and a pattern for a NEWBORN cap.  Yarn will be provided, but feel free to bring your own PURPLE (any shade) yarn.  Get started now and bring some finished caps to show off.

Our Lady's Inn is sponsored by Twice Blessed Resale Shop. People will work at the resale shop and at the Inn. Heavy lifting, yard work, maintenance and painting are some of the projects they would like to get done.
