Services for Families

The Counseling & Wellness department at Fontbonne offers two programs to assist student familes.

First-Year Family Transitions Program

Family support can be very important to college students. Fontbonne offers the First-Year Family Transitions (FYFT) program to help families work together to ease the transition from high school to college and from home life to campus life and to promote students’ success.

While the FYFT is beneficial for all incoming freshman families, it can be especially helpful for:

  • Families who may be struggling with, or anxious about, their student beginning college and/or leaving home
  • Families of students who may be prone to homesickness
  • Families of students who may have struggled academically or socially in high school
  • Families of students who are entering with pre-existing mental health or other issues.

The program includes a free family support session with Claudia Charles, Director of Counseling & Wellness at Fontbonne University. Claudia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with thirteen years of counseling experience in higher education, and doctoral level training in family counseling. During the session families will receive referral information for family counseling providers in the community.

For more information or to schedule a session please contact Mary at 314-889-4516 or masaro@fontbonne.edu  Sessions take place in the Student Affairs Division, located on the first floor of the Medaille Hall building.
