Healthcare Career Exploration Camp

Nursing, Dietetics, Deaf Education and Speech Pathology

Interested in exploring college opportunities? Join with fellow high-school students from across the region for a high-impact, experienced based summer enrichment program. Fontbonne Faculty and staff from the College of Education and Allied Health will demonstrate and dazzle you with the many exciting professional opportunities in the fields of nursing, dietetics, and speech-language pathology. Healthcare professionals in these disciplines are involved with the delivery of health services pertaining to the identification, evaluation, and prevention of diseases; dietary and nutrition services; communication development and rehabilitation, among many others

Each Day is to begin at 9:00am and conclude at 3:00pm. Lunch will take place between 12:00pm and 1:00pm.

Nursing

Explore opportunities with the high-demand field of nursing. Experience real-life healthcare scenarios with our state-of-the-art simulation manikins. Rotate through stations and learn basic nursing skills, vital signs, and injections. Interact with nursing professionals from Fontbonne University

Dietetics

Review a nutrition assessment and client case study to understand how to plan a nutrition intervention. Discuss relationships with food and what “healthy” means. Participate in a cooking demonstration, gaining understanding of nutrition education and culinary education strategies. Describe three career paths for dietitians

Speech Language Pathology 

  • Scoping of throat to examine swallow patterns
  • Modification of food texture and thickness to improve patient safety
  • Use of alternative and augmentative communication
  • Analysis of language samples
  • Hearing testing and exploration of assistive listening devices
  • Family-centered counseling through patient simulations

GOALS Camps

Theater Camp 
This camp is for students from third to eighth grade currently working on fluency (stuttering), pragmatics and written expression goals. Join us as we create the greatest play of the summer while maintaining our progress in therapy goals.

Monday and Wednesday 9am- 12pm and 1pm- 3pm

Literacy Camp 
Get fired up about literacy in our LIT for Reading camp, where children will maintain their therapy goals in an interactive and enjoyable way. This camp for children from second to third grade will focus on strengthening the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension through hands-on activities that make reading fun.
