Your interest in early childhood education is celebrated at Fontbonne, and our faculty is dedicated to providing you with the tools and knowledge you need to help young minds develop. As an early childhood educator, director or parent advocate, you can make a difference in the lives of children. Fontbonne’s early childhood major includes coursework and practical experience in areas such as child development, early childhood education and administration, parenting, and family relationships.

Program Highlights

Your interest in ensuring the youngest learners receive the positive encouragement,  intellectual stimulation, and educational support necessary for success in school and life is at the heart of our early education program.

  • Early, hands-on experience outside the classroom
  • Optional Missouri teaching certification: early childhood (birth – third grade) or early childhood/special education (birth – third grade)
  • Development of creative, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Development of effective communication skills, ability to work both individually and as part of a team
  • Internship/practicum placements that encourage student’s individual professional interests
  • Fontbonne University is a member in good standing of the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) while preparing for the AAQEP Quality Assurance Review in spring 2023. AAQEP is recognized by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MoDESE) by agreement and in support of quality assurance, continuous improvement, and innovation in educator preparation.
