Graduate Admission Requirements

Fontbonne University admits graduates of accredited degree-granting colleges and universities to our graduate programs.

If you are applying for the Ed.D. program, please complete the Ed.D. application.

  • Ed.D. in Collaborative High Impact Instruction

    New cohorts will begin each summer. Applications will be accepted year round and must be received within five weeks of the start of summer classes.  Applicants must hold a master’s degree with a minimum of 3.0 GPA at the graduate level. To be considered for admission to the Fontbonne University Ed.D. program, we require that you:

    • Submit a completed Ed.D. application.
    • Submit graduate transcripts.
    • Submit three letters of recommendation.
    • Complete an essay to be submitted as part of the application, which should include your rationale for an Ed.D., a rationale for this program, an explanation of how you hope the degree will influence your professional impact, and where you see yourself in 10 years.
    • Complete an on-campus interview.
  • Communication Disorders & Deaf Education Department

    Applicants are required to have an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning in deaf education, elementary education, early childhood education, special
    education or speech-language pathology. Applicants must have an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. For all programs in the Department of Communication Disorders and Deaf Education, a completed graduate application must also be submitted.

    Graduate Speech-Language Pathology Program

    • Graduate Speech-Language Pathology applicants will apply online through CSDCAS
    • Official transcripts from each institution attended. If you are currently attending college, include your most recently completed semester grades.
    • Three letters of recommendation.
    • A personal essay.
  • Eckelkamp College of Global Business & Professional Studies

    • A completed graduate application
    • Official transcript from the institution which granted the applicant’s undergraduate degree
    • Two letters of recommendation
    • A resume
    • A self-statement of 300-500 words

    For Master of Science in Accounting and Master of Business in Accounting there is also:

    • A GMAT test within the previous five years, with a total score of 475 or
      higher. This requirement may be waived if either of the following
      conditions is met:

      • Completed an undergraduate degree from an
        AACSB or ACBSP accredited program within the previous five years with a
        cumulative GPA of at least 3.3
      • Completed a graduate degree in a
        field requiring significant analytical or quantitative work, such as
        business, economics, engineering, statistics, computer science or law
        with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  • Education/Special Education Department

    • A completed graduate application
    • Non-native English speakers must submit proof of English proficiency. A TOEFL of 80 or 6.0 IELTS is required
    • Official transcripts from each institution attended
    • Three professional references
    • A self-statement of 300-500 words
    • 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • FCS – Multidisciplinary Health Communication Studies

    • A completed graduate application
    • Official transcripts from every college and university you have attended. If you are currently attending college, include your most recently completed semester grades.
    • A current resume including three professional references with contact information, including one from a supervisor or recent academic advisor.
    • A 2-3 page, double-spaced, typed self-statement essay that discusses your academic preparation and achievements, work experience, reason for pursuing graduate study and personal goals.
  • Fine Arts Department

    Art

    • A completed graduate application 
    • Official transcripts from each institution attended
    • Three letters of recommendation
    • A self-statement of 300-500 words
    • 20 images of artwork (digital portfolio)

    Theatre

    • A completed graduate application
    • Official transcripts from each institution attended
    • Three letters of recommendation, one from a supervisor or recent academic advisor
    • A self-statement of 300-500 words
    • A resume of relevant theater work
    • 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • M.S. Instructional Design and Technology

    • A completed graduate application
    • Official transcript from the institution which granted the applicant’s undergraduate degree
    • Three letters of recommendation
    • A self-statement of 300-500 words
  • M.S. in Computer Science

    Applicants must provide:

    • A current resume with three references OR three letters of recommendation, one of which is from a supervisor or recent academic advisor, are required. If this is not possible, please contact the department chair.
    • Official transcripts from all universities attended
      • Applicants must have completed a baccalaureate degree before beginning the master’s program. In addition, the following knowledge must be demonstrated prior to starting the MS degree.
        • Programming experience equivalent to one full year of computer programming course work.
        • Knowledge of probability and statistics.
        • Strong background in mathematics OR 2 years of IT field experience.
    • Entrance examinations
      • A minimum GRE score of 290 is required, with 150 quantitative and 140 verbal. The GRE test can be waived if any one of the following conditions is satisfied.
        • BS from an ABET accredited program.
        • BS in a technology or engineering field with a GPA of 3.5/4.0
        • MS in related field.
        • 2 years of IT field experience.
    • Grade Point Average
      • 3.0/4.0 full acceptance as long as other criteria are met.
      • 2.75/4.0 conditional acceptance. Must maintain 3.0 GPA for first 6 hours of course work, with no grade below B-.
    • Self-statement. In 500 – 600 words, the student will state his/her goals and reason(s) for pursuing graduate study in computer science.

    In addition, the following applies to international students:

    • GPA 3.0/4.0 (There is no “conditional” admission for international students based on their academic GPA.)
    • Three letters of recommendation must be submitted. A resume will not suffice.
    • If a student submits foreign university transcripts that we cannot evaluate, then the student must submit a WES evaluation of his/her transcripts. (WES is World Education Services, a professional organization that will help with foreign transcript evaluation.)
    • Language requirement: 70 internet-based TOEFL (IBT)/ 6.0 IELTS/ 280 Fontbonne University Compass exam.
    • Copy of passport.
    • Completed international student application.
    • Proof of financial support in the amount of $23,330. (If student is not the sponsor, a sponsorship affidavit of support is required).
