Where am I?
Student Profile: Joe Winter
Name: Joe Winter
Degree Program: Master of Business Administration
Joe Winter had a successful career. He was happy in his position as sales manager for a company specializing in emergency clean up and stabilization after disastrous events. But he felt that something was missing.
"I wanted to update my knowledge and give myself more of an edge within the business world," he said. "I thought an MBA would be the best way to do that."
Winter looked at several programs throughout St. Louis. When he looked at the Fontbonne University evening and online program, he knew it was the right choice for him.
"There was a certain comfort level I got when I looked at Fontbonne," he said. "There was a set, steady schedule. I knew I’d be in class on Monday night and would be working with like-minded people for the next two years. That sounded reasonable and beneficial to me."
When Winter started the MBA program - one of several evening and online programs offered - he found that the classes helped him in his job almost right away. The topics were relevant to his field. He gained extensive knowledge of overall business and personnel management. He felt that the faculty were all knowledgeable and supportive, but still flexible and willing to help him in any way – which was exactly what he needed after his 10-year hiatus from school.
"The entire program really did provide the support that I was expecting," he said. "That added to my overall comfort level, and I was better able to learn, absorb and implement the lessons taught."
And, then, Winter got the great news.
"I was promoted to business manager before I had even finished the program," he said. He now oversees all offices nationally and works with the owners of each franchise, which has allowed him to build his network and learn even more about the business he’s in.
"Fontbonne helped build my confidence. I’m now comfortable while dealing with all of the business owners, and I work side-by-side with our presidents, CEOs and COOs. I understand the many facets of business and that it all relates back to how the world operates as a whole."
