Carla Hickman has given most of her adult life in distinguished service to the Fontbonne University community and its students. Since 1987, Carla has held numerous roles on Fontbonne’s campus, actively contributing to the mission by volunteering in multiple philanthropic events and continually supporting students. After serving as a dedicated employee of Fontbonne University for over 34 years, Carla Hickman retired as the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Title IX Coordinator in June 2021.
While serving in her positions in the Student Affairs division, Carla contributed to a variety of areas and support services, consistently providing Fontbonne’s students with a sense of respect and dignity. Carla has worked in countless co-curricular areas and services such as residential life, student engagement, orientation, health services, food service, international student affairs, Title IX, tuberculosis screening, retention, freshman seminar, commencement, and more.
Carla has great respect for the founding values of the Sisters of Saint Joseph and demonstrates these values in her work at Fontbonne University, as well as in her personal endeavors. Carla’s former supervisor, Joe Deighton said, “Carla has pride in Fontbonne and its mission that she wears on her sleeve so that others in her community of Kirkwood, in her church community, or just about anywhere, can bear witness to the values of the Sisters and the good work of Fontbonne University. Carla loves our mission and our students and has spent well over 30 years giving them her all.”
