Campus Life

Fontbonne is exploring creative ways to allow students to interact, engage and hold events while still following health and safety guidelines. These opportunities may occur virtually, outdoors or in size-appropriate settings.

Highlights

  • All organization events must be pre-approved by the Center of Leadership and Community Engagement (LACE Center). Contact Janelle Julian at jjulian@fontbonne.edu.
  • Fall Orientation and Welcome Week events are scheduled to occur primarily in-person but will involve more deliberate small group sessions housed in spaces that allow for social distancing.
  • Student organizations may still operate but will need to follow new health and safety protocols.
  • All student support services and administrative offices will be open to students throughout the academic year; however, hours and procedures may be adjusted. Contact information for all offices can be found in Fontbonne’s directory.
  • Students experiencing COVID-19-related challenges, including technology issues or financial difficulties, should contact Janelle Julian at jjulian@fontbonne.edu.

Engagement & Support Services

Events & Activities

Fontbonne is exploring creative ways to allow campus community members to engage, hold events and socially interact while still following all appropriate health and safety guidelines. Many of these opportunities may continue virtually, outdoors or in size-appropriate settings until we can facilitate larger gatherings.  

Campus activities will take place with updated health and safety protocols, including but not limited to: 

  • University policies and procedures related to COVID-19 safety will be followed, such as:
    • Wearing appropriate face coverings.
    • Maintaining at least six feet of physical distancing from all participants.
    • Limiting activities known to promote spreadsuch as singing, shouting or sharing equipment.
  • Risk of COVID-19 transmission is lower outside. If possible, events should be held in outdoor spaces. If an event must be held indoorsthe space must be large enough to allow for appropriate social distancing.
  • Eventwill be limited to 30 or fewer participants. If an event necessitates an audience of more than 30 peopleit must be approved by Fontbonne’s President or a Vice President of the university.
  • Certain event spaces on campus will have limited capacities. Please consider the below capacities while planning gatherings:
    • Dunham Student Activities Center Café: 30 People
    • Medaille Hall, Arnold Memorial Center: 30 People
    • Medaille Hall, LACE Center: 1People
    • Jack C. Taylor Library Lewis Room: 28 people 
    • AB 203-205: 24People
    • Joseph’s Hall, First Floor Lobby15 people
  • Sanitation and protective equipment such as hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and extra disposable masks should be provided at all events.
  • When appropriate, participants may be asked additional health screening questions prior to entry into the event. 

Student Organizations

Fontbonne students will still be able to participate in clubs and organizations; however, the below protocols will be in place to ensure activities are happening safely: 

  • All organization events must be pre-approved by the Center of Leadership and Community Engagement through the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs.  
  • Social distancing requirements may limit the size and scope of events held on campus.  
  • If any event is deemed unsafe, it will need to be modified, happen virtually or be cancelled.  
  • Student organization advisors or a full-time employee must be present at all student organization events and will be responsible for ensuring all health and safety protocols are followed. 
  • All student organizations must submit an Event Registration Form and a COVID-19 Addendum Form to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at least 20 business days prior to any event.
  • Organization meetings may happen in-person if attendance will be less than 15 participants. If more than 15 attendees are expected, the event should occur virtually.
  • The Center of Leadership and Community Engagement located on the fourth floor of Medaille Hall will accommodate organization meetings of 15 or fewer participants. Organizations can reserve the space by contacting Joel Hermann,Director of Orientation and Student Engagement, at jhermann@fontbonne.edu or James Williams, Director of Multicultural Affairs, at jwilliams@fontbonne.edu.
  • Those attending organization meetings must wear a face covering and maintain at least six feet of physical distance from other participants.
  • Questions regarding student organizations should be directed to Janelle Julian, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, at jjulian@fontbonne.edu. 

Fall Orientation & Welcome Week

Fall Orientation and Welcome Week events are scheduled to occur primarily inperson, but will involve more deliberate small group sessions in spaces that allow for social distancing. In addition to the protocols for campus events listed above, Fall Orientation events will follow the below guidelines: 

  • Participants will be asked a series of health screening questions upon arrival to gathering spaces. 
  • Face coverings will be provided and are expected to be worn in accordance with CDC, St. Louis County and Fontbonne University guidelines.
  • Increased cleaning and sanitizing measures for classroom spaces, distanced gathering spaces and common spaces will be adopted.
  • Deliberate small group sessions will be held in classroom spaces that allow participants to maintain social distancing.
  • Activities known to increase the transmission of COVID-19 will be avoided, including singing, shouting and sharing equipment.
  • Questions regarding Fall Orientation and Welcome Week events should be directed to Joel Hermann, Director of Orientation and Student Engagement, at jhermann@fontbonne.edu.  

Support Services

All student support services and administrative offices will be accessible to students during the academic year; however, some may offer more remote services, require appointments for inperson visits and adjust hours to stagger staff, lower density and promote social distancing.

If your meeting requires face-to-face contact with a staff person, appropriate face covering and social distancing will be required. When necessary, please allow time for a staff member to put on their face covering prior to stepping into their office.
