If any member of the Fontbonne community tests positive, they will begin isolation off campus or, in the case of students who simply cannot go home, in residence hall rooms set aside for this purpose. If the individual is a student, in accordance with our usual procedures, instructors will be notified simply that the student will be absent from the classroom for a period of time. This will be done in a manner that respects the privacy of the student and in accordance with medical privacy laws.
Those testing positive will also fill out a private and confidential form that collects information about those with whom they have had close contact in the two days before their symptoms began (the period during which they were infectious). Close contact is defined by the CDC as having been within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period, starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated. A Fontbonne representative, Dr. Libby Rayhel, acting as a liaison, will report the cases to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and will communicate with the St Louis County Department of Public Health regarding the case and the information gathered about potential close contacts.
If you are identified as having been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, the St. Louis County Department of Public Health should contact you. If you are not identified as a close contact by the local health department, no special precautions need to be taken and no contact will be made.
