Softball Sights Set on SLIAC Championship

The Fontbonne University women’s softball team opens play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament tonight when they play Westminster College at 4 p.m. at Principia College in Elsah, Ill. The winner of this double-elimination tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The Griffins are the #1 seed in the tournament after winning the conference with a 17-1 SLIAC record and a 31-5 overall record. This was the fourth straight year Fontbonne won the SLIAC regular season championship. The Griffins will be attempting to win the SLIAC Tournament for the fifth straight year and make their fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Fontbonne is currently ranked #21 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Poll, which is its highest ranking in school history. Any Fontbonne student who brings a valid student ID can attend any of the tournament games for free. Admission to the tournament is $5.

Thursday, May 1
Game 1 - #1 Fontbonne vs. #4 Westminster, 4 p.m.

Game 2 - #2 Greenville vs. #3 Spalding, 6 p.m.

Game 3 - Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2, 8 p.m.

Friday, May 2
Game 4 - Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2, 5 p.m.

Game 5 - Winner of Game 3 vs. Loser of Game 4, 7 p.m.

Saturday, May 3
Game 6 - Winner of Game 4 vs. Winner of Game 5, 1 p.m.

Game 7 - If Necessary immediately following Game 6
