Adult learners put newfound know-how to good works

General Press Release

June 5, 2009

A group of Fontbonne University OPTIONS students pooled their time, energy and newfound business know-how to raise over $3,700 to benefit The Delta Dental Health Theatre.

The event, “Cosmic for a Cause: Bowling For Smiles,” was part of a capstone project for their B.S. in the Sports and Entertainment Management program.

“We felt that Delta Dental was a worthy cause,” says OPTIONS graduate Cheryl Lampert, one of seven adult students who planned the May 6 event which featured bowling, a silent auction and refreshments.

“We were pleased to have such great support for this project,” added Lampert. “Almost the entire Delta Dental building came out. I think they thought we were just a group of traditional college students. They were surprised when they met us and saw that we weren’t kids.”

“It was a wonderful opportunity for all parties involved,” says Shannon Woodcock, executive director of the Delta Dental Health Theater. “I believe providing students with the necessary skill set to help nonprofits succeed is crucial. The Fontbonne OPTIONS students were a joy to work with.”

The mission of the Delta Dental Health Theatre is to realize the vital connection between good oral health and overall health. The theatre offers a unique blend of fun, entertainment and education to promote healthy life choices for the entire family. The Theatre is located at Laclede’s Landing in St. Louis.

Fontbonne OPTIONS is designed specifically to accommodate the needs of busy, working adults with convenient, practical and accelerated undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
