Deaf Education Celebrates 50 Years

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Fontbonne University’s Department of Deaf Education, faculty and staff produced a documentary-style video entitled, “Sound Beginnings,” that chronicles the evolution of the department from its launch in 1963 through the present day. The department also held celebratory events and workshops June 21-22.

Sister James Lorene Hogan created the program that would eventually grow from a major to an entire department, and then would be paired with Speech-Language Pathology to create the Department of Communication Disorders and Deaf Education, as it is known today.

Read more about the program in a feature article from the most recent university magazine Tableaux.
