Alumni Honored During Reunion Weekend

During Reunion Weekend (Friday Sept. 13-Sunday, Sept. 15), Fontbonne University presented the Alumni Awards to five outstanding alumni for their accomplishments and contributions to the university, the university’s alumni association and to their individual communities.

Nina (Kassing) Bryans, ’57, received the Service to the University Award. Kassing has continued to serve the university since her graduation in a variety of ways. In addition to her status as a founding member of the Fontbonne Community Connection (FCC), she has served on the Fontbonne Alumni Board and was active on the Strategic Planning & Bylaws committee.

D. Samuel Dotson, III, ’01, received the Professional Achievement Award. Colonel Dotson, who earned his MBA from Fontbonne, was appointed chief of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department in 2012. Dotson oversees 1,319 officers and 548 civilian employees and is responsible for the public safety of 318,000 St. Louis city residents and thousands of visitors. He has received many professional awards including the Chief’s Letter of Commendation.

Jeanice L. Baker, ’94, received the Service to the Community Award. At Monsanto, where she is employed as an accounting operations support lead, Baker serves as president of the AAIM Diversity Network and assists in the development of African American employees. Among her many service commitments outside of her place of employ is her post as president of the National Association of Black Accountants for which she serves on the Central Region Leadership team and has previously served as president of the St. Louis Chapter.

Ashley Brown, ’08, received the Young Alumni Award. Brown was an active member of the Fontbonne community during her time as a student. Since graduating, she has gone on to work as an admissions counselor for Webster University and recently accepted a position as the regional territory manager in the Chicago area for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. 

The award recipients were honored at a brunch held on the main Fontbonne Campus in the Mabee Gymnasium in the Dunham Student Activity Center.
