Commencement Ceremony

Location: Fontbonne’s Campus

All Commencement ceremonies will take place on Saturday, May 1, 2021 on the Fontbonne campus.  We are still finalizing ceremony details, but we can tell you how the ceremonies are being divided.

9 AM: Graduate and Undergraduate Students from the Department of Communication Disorders and Deaf Education and the Department of Social Work

12 PM:  Doctoral, Graduate and Undergraduate Students from the Department of Education/Special Education and the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences

3 PM: Graduate and Undergraduate Students from the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Fashion Merchandising

6 PM: Graduate and Undergraduate Students from the Department of Biological and Behavioral Sciences, Department of Fine Arts, the Department of Humanities, and the Department of Math and Computer Science

 

As a reminder there is a limit of 2 guests per graduate.  Tickets are available for pick-up from the Registrar’s Office in Ryan 205.

If you are unable to physically attend the commencement ceremony, we are live streaming the ceremony and invite you to watch.  The link will become available for you to bookmark as we get closer to Commencement.

Commencement Checklist

Use this checklist of mandatory items to be sure you’re ready to walk across the stage on commencement day.

Caps and Gowns must be ordered through Jostens. The deadline to order is March 19th.  

Undergraduate and Master’s students use this link to order caps and gowns.

Doctoral students – information coming soon!

Undergraduate tassels are to be worn on the right side of the cap until the announcement is made at the ceremony to formally move the tassels to the left side. Graduate tassels are worn on the left side at all times.

Graduate and undergraduate candidates are invited to wear the stole and pins that they have received at the convocation ceremonies held throughout their years at Fontbonne University.

 

 

Congratulations! Graduation is a key milestone on your journey with Fontbonne University, although it doesn’t mean your travels with us are over!

Additional Information

Those undergraduate students that qualify and are receiving academic honors will be notified by the Registrar’s Office. To calculate Latin honors, Fontbonne uses the grades for all courses taken at other colleges and universities, as well as all courses taken at Fontbonne (will include final semester grades).

Latin Honors are as follows:

    • Cum Laude: 3.7 to 3.79 cumulative grade point average
    • Magna Cum Laude: 3.8 to 3.89 cumulative grade point average
    • Summa Cum Laude: 3.9 or above cumulative grade point average

If you are graduating with Latin Honors, you will pick up your cords in the Registrar’s Office, Ryan 205 after you have received your notification. Master degree candidates do not wear honor cords. 

Further details regarding the distribution of the honor cords will be shared once they become available.

Diplomas are not given at the commencement ceremony. Students participating in the ceremony will only receive a diploma cover as they process across the stage.

Diplomas for students graduating in the spring 2021 semester will be mailed out in early June 2021. Please be sure your address is updated with the Registrar’s Office.

Students graduating in summer 2021 can expect to have their diplomas mailed 4-6 weeks after the degree conferral is completed. Diplomas are not given at the commencement ceremony. Students participating in the ceremony will only receive a diploma cover as they process across the stage.

Commencement Arrival Information

Only the graduates and the ticketed guests are allowed on campus during the ceremony. We will have a live streaming link posted on this page on the day of the ceremony for those who are unable to physically attend the ceremony.  Guests will be required to show their tickets to gain entry to the ceremony area. 

On the day of the ceremony, guests should arrive no earlier than 1 hour prior to the ceremony.  Guests should proceed to the designated ceremony area to be seated.  Please plan to leave campus after the ceremony has concluded to allow the next group of graduates and their guests to begin entering the campus.

Guests should park in their designated parking lots. Details are posted in the parking section.

Each graduate is allowed 2 guest tickets. Tickets are ready for pick-up from the Registrar’s Office in Ryan 205.

Tickets are required for guests to gain entry to the commencement area.

On the day of the ceremony, please arrive 1 hour prior to your designated time.  Please do not arrive more than 1.5 hours before your ceremony as it will interfere with the prior group trying to conclude and leave campus.  Graduates should head to the chapel where staff will be there to check you in.  Please plan to leave campus after your ceremony has concluded to allow the next group of graduates and their guests to begin entering the campus.

This parking map provides details and information about the designated parking lots for each ceremony. The Horseshoe Lot is not available and not accessible from Wydown Blvd. on the day of the ceremony.

The 9 AM and 3 PM ceremonies should park in Lot A.

The 12 PM and 6 PM ceremonies should park in Lot B.
