First Year Student Fall Orientation

It's Time to Take Flight

Fontbonne’s Fall Orientation program will prepare you to Soar Higher as a first-year student — while having fun and experiencing beloved campus traditions along the way! The three-day adventure combines authentic, welcoming moments with exciting and memorable activities, where you’ll make new friends as you celebrate the beginning of your collegiate experience. Memorable traditions include meeting your WING Leaders, attending our Catch the Fire Ceremony, and participating in a friendly competition known as the Griffin Games!

Schedule

This is our tentative Fall Orientation 2020 schedule. Please note, this schedule does not include the optional Pre-Orientation programming beginning on August 19, 2020 or the move-in procedures and residential life meetings taking place prior to the start of orientation. For questions about Pre-Orientation, please contact Regina Wade-Johnson at RWadeJohnson@fontbonne.edu. For questions about move-in procedures, please contact AJ Friedhoff at AFriedhoff@fontbonne.edu.

FAQs

What measures are being taken to ensure my health and well-being during orientation?

We are following the guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the St. Louis County Health Department in order to provide as many precautions as possible for our students’ well-being. Our fall reopening plan will include increased cleaning measures, social distancing, mask usage, and other various policies and procedures to provide for a safe on-campus environment. During Fall Orientation, students will utilize classroom spaces for small-group activities / sessions and our gym or large outdoor, open-air spaces for any collective, socially-distanced gathering.

Everyone at Fontbonne is eager for you to join us on campus this fall in a safe, responsible way that will promote a sense of community and excitement to start your Fontbonne journey. Please do not hesitate to send any questions or concerns to Joel Hermann, Director of Orientation and Student Engagement, by emailing jhermann@fontbonne.edu.

How much does orientation cost?

Every new student pays a one-time orientation fee of $200.00 for first-year students and $50.00 for transfer students, which is added to the student’s bill. The fee covers meals, supplies, and activities during orientation. It is to your advantage then to maximize your time during orientation in order to get your money’s worth!

Who are my WING leaders and what do they do?

WING Leaders are the upperclassmen that have been trained to assist you as you seamlessly transition to Fontbonne University and become a part of Griffin Nation. This team’s goal is to Welcome In New Griffins (WING), and they also help plan and oversee many of the orientation events and traditions. Your WING Leaders will contact you in late July to introduce themselves. You may meet a few of them throughout Griffin 101, but the entire team will be present and ready to welcome you to campus at the beginning of Fall Orientation.

What if I have to work during orientation?

Orientation is the start of your college experience and attendance is expected of all first-year students. You wouldn’t miss class because of work, so you shouldn’t schedule yourself to work during orientation. There are several mandatory activities during orientation that are critical to your success at Fontbonne University. If you know of any conflict that cannot be avoided please contact Joel Hermann, Director of Orientation and Student Engagement, at jhermann@fontbonne.edu or 314-889-4590.

What if I need special accommodations during orientation?

Please contact Joel Hermann (jhermann@fontbonne.edu or 314-889-4590) as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made.

Who can come with me to Fall Orientation?

In an abundance of caution for our students and all members of the Fontbonne Community, Fall Orientation programming is only open to our first-year students this season. For residential students, please refer to the guidelines provided by the Department of Residential Life regarding guests for our move-in process.
