#GivingTuesday Update

#GivingTuesday was a huge success for Fontbonne. We are pleased to report that 177 donors contributed to the appeal, exceeding the goal of 150 donors. Fontbonne friend, Brian Abel Ragen, has committed to give the university $10,000 in honor of this accomplishment. The money will go toward scholarships and ensuring students meet their educational goals. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to Brian Abel Ragen, and all our donors for supporting Fontbonne.  #GivingTuesday is a national campaign. Over 7,000 non-profits, universities included, from around the country join to promote a day to give back and come together to transform the way people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.

Student Alumni Association Thrives at Fontbonne

Several years ago the Alumni Relations office formed a small group of students called the Student Alumni Association, as a way to connect with current students. Over time, the organization grew and evolved into its’ own official student organization on campus currently with 22 members.

The organization is made up of both undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in developing school spirit, and building a positive connection between current students, alumni,  and the university.  The goal is to develop life-long committed alumni upon graduation from Fontbonne.

Current members represent a variety of degrees, and develop engagement activities like a service day with the Graduates of the Last Decade alumni committee at Brightside St. Louis,  Gunner’s birthday party for all local university mascots, and the SAA speaker series, featuring alumni speakers participating in a lunch time mentoring session with current students.  They also help support the Alumni Relations office by volunteering at special events.

Tony  Prospero, a Math Education major from Chicago, IL says, “Being part of SAA has made me realize how important it is to support the university after graduation.  I like being able to meet alumni through this organization and learn from them.”

If you would like to volunteer to speak to SAA members and other current students about your career or other related topics, contact Alumni Relations at 314-889-1447 or alumnievents@fontbonne.edu.

Junior Achievement Scholarships for HS Seniors to Study Business at Fontbonne
The Junior Achievement team is off to a great start! As you may recall, Fontbonne entered a 10 year agreement with Junior Achievement and will be the sponsoring university in their JA Finance Park facility in Chesterfield. The walls will be repaired and painted Fontbonne purple, and the space will eventually be adorned with Fontbonne information, career and major options, and other interactive pieces for all students going through the facility. The Eckelkamp College faculty and staff will have a mini-retreat at the JA facility on January 23 where they will learn more about the facility and the many JA programs, among other College business items. An exciting aspect of this partnership is the new Dennis Gipson scholarship to be awarded by JA for a student active in JA that will study business at Fontbonne. Two high school seniors will be selected annually to receive $2500 that meet this and other criteria specified in the scholarship.
