I Heart CSJs Week

Dr. Brian Matz, Fontbonne’s Carondelet Chair in Catholic Thought, received a grant to host “I Heart CSJs Week” March 8-14. It will honor and celebrate the work of our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. There will be a number of events on getting to know our sisters and the work they have done over the years.

One event Matz recommends is the historical tour of Fontbonne’s campus, Friday, March 10 at 11:45 in the Lewis Room of the library. This historical tour gives the audience the chance to see Fontbonne over the years through photographs.

There will be an event each day, and we encourage everyone to join us. Come get to know some of our sisters as we celebrate everything they have accomplished.

Margaret Eugene, CSJ '55 turns 100 years old

Happy birthday to Margaret Eugene, CSJ ’55, who turned 100 years old on Feb. 18.

Linda Markway, CSJ, Fontbonne University’s director of mission stewardship, presented her with a card signed by dozens of students, faculty and staff in the Fontbonne community, where Sister Margaret was a daily presence for so long. A member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet since 1942 and a 1955 Fontbonne graduate, Sister Margaret spent her career teaching at all levels: St. Vincent’s grade school, St. Anthony’s and St. Joseph’s Academy high schools, and 25 years at Fontbonne as faculty and administrative staff.

For all of her hard work and contributions to Fontbonne and for all of the lives she has touched throughout her career, we would like to thank and congratulate her on a life filled with education, service and caring for the dear neighbor.

Dietitians honored for work

Two Fontbonne trained dietitians recently received prestigious accolades.

Alumna Nikki VandeVen Plassmeyer ’13 ’14 – a dietician/health coach – received the Super Hero Award from Optum, a branch of United Health Care. Only 250 people are selected for this award nationwide. She will travel to Orlando in April to celebrate with other winners and be honored by the company president.

And dietetics student Jennifer Cuddeback has earned the 2017 Eugenia Shrader Scholarship from the Missouri Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This scholarship is awarded to those who are active in the field of dietetics and show promise in being a valuable member of the profession.

Congratulations to both of these exemplary Fontbonne scholars.
