Bosnia Memory Project honors Midwest BankCentre

The Bosnia Memory Project at Fontbonne University honored Midwest BankCentre with the inaugural Bosnia Memory Project Community Leader Award in March. Midwest BankCentre has been a leading community investor in the Bosnia Memory Project, which is dedicated to establishing an enduring record of Bosnian genocide survivors, especially those living in metropolitan St. Louis.

Dr. Ben Moore, co-founder and director of the Bosnia Memory Project, presented the award to Jim Watson, chairman and CEO of Midwest BankCentre, which employs and serves many individuals in the St. Louis Bosnian community. “We are grateful for the opportunity to be deeply invested in the Bosnia Memory Project at Fontbonne,” said Watson.

Painting finds new library home after alumna donation

A group of alumna and friends stopped by campus to say hello to an old friend – an abstract watercolor painting titled Union Station. Nancy Siefker, CSJA, left, Jeannette Maschmann ’52, Sister Clara Vincent Slatinsky, CSJ and Sister Mary Rita Essert, CSJ ’62 recently got a look at the painting’s new home in the library. Maschmann donated it to Fontbonne in honor of her sister, Joan Maschmann ’55, who bought the painting from friend and art major Margaret Kelly O’Brien ’55. Union Station held fond memories for Joan because she drove her father there to work as a rail mail clerk. Joan passed away in 2013 and Jeannette died in January.
