Taking a Leap of Faith- What It’s Like Transferring Colleges

HomeNews StoriesHomepage NewsTaking a Leap of Faith- What It’s Like Transferring Colleges

In Fall 2020, Krystal Kohenskey transferred to Fontbonne University after her previous institution closed. We sat down with Krystal to learn more about her experience as a transfer student. Check out our Q&A below!

What was your experience transferring? Did you ever feel behind?

My experience transferring was really easy and straightforward. Not only did all my credits transfer, but I also was not behind in my schooling.

What makes Fontbonne different than other Universities you attended?

Having attended three separate colleges, Fontbonne has offered many opportunities that I never had with any of my other colleges. From student organizations to service opportunities and grad school, Fontbonne has connected me to many different ventures. Here is a small, tight-knit community where you feel like a family. Everyone knows everyone on campus. The faculty and staff here are so understanding. That is something I didn’t experience at any of my other colleges. Fontbonne knows that things happen. They understand whether it is a sickness, mental health, family emergency, or sports. Everyone here is so open and accommodating while still ensuring that we are succeeding in our classes.

Was it challenging to make connections and socialize?

I was welcomed to Fontbonne with open arms, and every person I met was a friendly face, whether it was a student or faculty. Making friends here was super easy. It also helped that I became super involved on campus. The community here is so kind and welcoming, so it was easy to find friends.

Was Fontbonne worth the leap of faith?

Coming to Fontbonne was worth the leap of faith. Fontbonne has allowed me to grow in more ways than I could have imagined. I have been given opportunities to grow mentally and spiritually while also getting to experience new things I would never have had before.

Can you share more about your Fontbonne experience so far?

So far, I have had a great experience at Fontbonne. I have been the most involved at Fontbonne than at any other school. Here I have been provided the opportunity to be a part of the women’s soccer team, our student ambassadors, and Omicron Delta Kappa ODK. Something I love about Fontbonne that I never experienced at other schools is the community and the professors’ concern and consideration for our personal lives. Our instructors always want the best for us and will do anything to help us succeed, which is always a good feeling when you know you have a team in your corner.

Any advice you would give to students transferring?

If I were to give any advice to students that want to transfer, it would be to get involved. Being the new kid at school is hard, trust me, I know, but getting involved allows you many opportunities to make friends.
