Registration and Placement Testing

Steps to Complete Before Starting Classes

Before starting classes at Fontbonne, you must register and sign up for the appropriate tests. Keep reading to see which test(s) you may need to take!

Course Registration

Course registration for the student’s first semester is very limited due to major requirements, prerequisites, time and course availability. Your academic advisor will do his or her best to serve your academic needs and get your program started appropriately, with the intention that your number one priority in the United States is to study. In your second semester, you will have more opportunity to create a more personal schedule.

Testing

Bring your completed test results to your academic advisor at the assigned time, they will then place you in courses according to your placement test scores.

You must attend orientation to be assigned a testing appointment.

Graduate Students

Students with admission to any graduate program WILL NOT be required to take ANY placement tests.

Undergraduate Students

First-time freshman will take the ACCUPLACER Mathematics and ACCUPLACER English COMPOSITION Writing placement tests.

These tests are designed to place you at the appropriate mathematics and writing levels.

The Mathematics sequence varies by major but typically is as follows:

  • MTH091 College Mathematics Skills
  • MTH095 Fundamentals of Algebra
  • MTH105 College Algebra OR MTH110 PreCalculus OR MTH115 Introduction to Statistics (fulfills the mathematics general education requirement)

The English Composition sequence is as follows

  • ESL062 Beginning Writing for Non-Native Speakers of English
  • ESL072 Intermediate Writing for Non-Native Speakers of English
  • ESL082 Advanced Writing for Non-Native Speakers of English
  • ENG095 College Writing Skills
  • ENG101 Composition I – fulfills Written Communications I (General Education Requirement)
  • ENG102 Composition II – fulfills Written Communication II (General Education Requirement)

Transfer students may take one or both of the above tests depending on the student’s transferred courses.

English as a Second Language / Intensive English Program

Students in the Intensive English Program will take the ACCUPLACER ESL with Writing Test. It is a computer based test that includes:

  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Grammar/Usage
  • Writing

Once the test is complete, you will bring your results to your academic advisor who will place you in courses according to your test score.
