Fontbonne University has named Brandon Clark head coach for the university’s new eSports program, set to compete in fall 2019.

“Coach Clark has a wide variety of experience in gaming and beyond to help us start our eSports program,” said Maria Buckel, athletic director. “I know he’ll be an outstanding role model for our student-athletes. I look forward to the heights this new sport can reach under his leadership.”

Clark graduated from Missouri Baptist University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Christian ministry and an emphasis in pastoral studies. While there, he was heavily involved in shaping the university’s first-year eSports League of Legends program.

“I’m beyond excited and grateful to be named head eSports coach at Fontbonne University,” Clark said. “I feel that the university is fully supportive of college eSports, and I look forward to seeing the program grow and thrive.”

Clark was a part of a roster that averaged 5-8 hours of practice time per day, worked with the head coach and players to help develop team and leadership skills, managed and casted live streams of the games, and helped analyze game footage for team improvement.

Fontbonne will begin its gaming season playing League of Legends, a fast-paced, competitive online game that blends the speed and intensity of an RTS with RPG elements. Two teams, each with a unique design and play style, will battle head-to-head across battlefields and game modes.

Competition will begin in fall of 2019. Learn more about Griffin athletics.
