College of Arts and Sciences

Fontbonne University’s College of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate students more than 30 degree programs spanning fields in the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and arts. Innovative programs, such as cybersecurity, bioinformatics, One Health, and strategic communication, combine interdisciplinary education with professional preparation in cutting edge fields. Partnership programs in engineering, nursing, occupational therapy, social work, religious studies and chiropractic provide additional outstanding opportunities.


The College’s seven departments enroll nearly 500 majors and employ more than 50 full-time faculty and staff. Experiential learning, community engagement, and faculty-student collaboration are hallmarks of the College’s commitment to liberal arts education that is both broad and relevant.

In addition to the varied degree offerings, the College is home to several distinctive initiatives that extend into the community, including Fontbonne’s professional theatre company, Mustard Seed Theatre, the Fine Arts Theatre, The Gallery of Art, and The Bosnia Memory Project.

    Topics in Genre Themes and Movements: Catholicism and Literature

    3 credits

    This course provides an in-depth analysis of major works of Catholic literature from around the world. The course will explore the question “What makes literature Catholic?” through examination of short fiction, novels, and poetry. We will read works by C.S. Lewis, Flannery O’Connor, Shusaku Endo, Walker Percy, Willa Cather, Gerard Manley Hopkins, and Claude McKay.
