Out-of-pocket cost

Additional costs that may be associated with the UWRF CSD graduate program**

The following are subject to change. This is not an official document but meant as an extra resource to help students plan for potential out-of-pocket expenses.

1st year:

  • Immunizations are required to be current—some are free through student health services, but some may require a medical insurance/copay visit:
  • Mantoux or Quantiferon TB test, Hepatitis B (3-shot series), Measles/Mumps/Rubella, Tetanus, Varicella
  • Student Liability Insurance—approximately $42
  • SimuCase 1-year membership: $99
  • Systematic Analysis of Language Transcripts (SALT) student guide: $20
  • CALIPSO (hours and skills tracking software) fee: $125 is collected via special course fee that is added to your tuition bill directly
  • Not required, but highly recommended–A reasonably priced digital recorder for use in clinic (personal mobile devices are not allowed to be used for this purpose): approximately $30

2nd year:

  • Mantoux/Quantiferon test (annual)
  • Influenza vaccine (many practicum sites require this)
  • Additional background checks are sometimes required by sites ($0 to $40 each semester)
  • Some sites may require drug testing, which can be completed for ~$30 or less
  • Student Liability Insurance–$42 renewal required to cover 2nd year for placements
  • Transportation or parking fees associated with placements (varies)—typically more cost with facilities that are in the metro area, but if you need to drive 30+ miles to a site plus return to campus for some evening courses, that will impact gas costs.  We strive to find sites that are near where students live/commute, but that isn’t always guaranteed, so travel distances may vary.
  • Some medical sites may require scrubs be worn, but many offer you the choice of scrubs or professional dress
  • If you wish to complete requirements for WI school licensure, the cost for the required portfolio software is $100.

Each semester:

You’ll need to purchase textbooks each semester.  Cost varies and there is no requirement for purchasing those on campus. Students may choose to purchase used versions or rent from online providers, as available.

Other:

Students will be required to take the Praxis SLP test at the end or following completion of any graduate program (not unique to UWRF).  The current cost of that is $146.

Credits Accepted

Post-bacc prerequisite credits (subject to review upon entry into the graduate program to determine coursework needs—this is the same for all students entering the program; some require additional credits)
